The top-seeded Scott City Beavers, behind a double-double from Jackson Rumford, held off the Sterling Black Bears to claim the tourney title by the score of 49-45 on Friday night in the Gleason Center at Sterling College. Rumford, a football commit to Kansas State, had 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Beavers' efforts while playing all 32 minutes.
Despite shooting just 36 percent from the field, the Beavers (10-2) knocked down nine from beyond the arc, while Sterling was just four of 12 from distance. Sterling was led by junior Boston Ekart with 19 points and 12 rebounds. The Bears (8-3) shot 41 percent from the field for the game, but just seven of 12 from the foul line. Scott City 10 12 14 13 - 49 Sterling 10 6 14 15 - 45 The Lyons Lions used a 19-point fourth quarter to come back and then held off the Hugoton Eagles for third place by the score of 63-62. Led by Deacon Showalter with 18 points and Xavier Solis with 17, the Lions (6-6) withstood a final second attempt by the Eagles on Friday in the Gleason Center at Sterling College.
Lyons made 17 of 27 free throws to aid their efforts, while Hugoton was just six of nine for the contest. The Lions also dominated on the boards, grabbing 32 rebounds to just 17 for the Eagles (4-7). Hugoton was led in scoring by senior, Jay Acosta with 19 points and Miguel Hernandez with 11. Lyons 14 16 14 19 - 63 Hugoton 18 16 15 13 - 62 Jumping out to a 26-8 lead in the first half, the Southeast of Saline Trojans were never threatened, coming away with a 48-32 win for fifth place over the Smoky Valley Vikings. The Trojans (5-7) were led in scoring by Gannon Jacobson with 22 points, while sophomore Tieman Ptacek contributed 16.
Smoky Valley (2-8) was never able to gain any offensive momentum during the game. Junior Ty Heitschmidt led the Vikings with 15 points. Southeast 12 14 9 13 - 48 Smoky Valley 5 3 9 15 - 32 The Trinity Celtics poured in a season-high 70 points and picked up their second win of the season in defeating the Kingman Eagles for seventh place by the score of 70-36 on Friday afternoon at Sterling High School. Eight players scored for the Celtics (2-9) with four players in double figures. Max Ryan led the way with 20 points. He was followed by Aaron Gust with 17, Cameron Kiser with 11 and Jackson Dozier with 10.
Kingman (2-10), while scoring 17 points in the first quarter, could only manage 19 points the rest of the way. The Eagles were led by Dawson Wood with 17 points and Ben Bradshaw with 11. Trinity 14 24 13 19 - 70 Kingman 17 2 10 7 - 36 Rebounding and free throw shooting were the main ingredients that allowed the Scott City Lady Beavers to claim the tourney title over Southeast of Saline by the score of 46-43 Friday night in the Gleason Center at Sterling College. Scott City outrebounded the Lady Trojans 31-24, including 15 offensive rebounds, while making 15 of 22 attempts from the free throw line, compared to just eight of 18 for Southeast.
Avery Lewis led Scott City (7-5) with 15 points while Megan Trout contributed 10 points, going 10 of14 from the foul line. Trout also pulled down seven rebounds, five on the offensive end, for the win. The Lady Trojans (9-3) were led in scoring by freshman Kyiah Samuelson with 13 points and Suttyn Douglas with 11. Scott City 9 13 15 9 - 46 Southeast 15 7 10 11 - 43 The Hugoton Lady Eagles, behind a 15-point performance from freshman Natalie Villegas, came back in the second half to defeat the Kingman Lady Eagles, 45-42, in the third-place contest on Friday afternoon. Villegas, who played all but 90 seconds of the game, and fellow freshman Morgan Niehues, who contributed 12 points, led the Hugoton effort.
While both teams shot just over 30 percent from the field, Hugoton (5-6) made three more free throws, going 15 for 19 compared to 12 of 20 for Kingman. Kingman (3-9) was led by Morgan Freund with 16 points, while Shay Watkins pulled down 10 rebounds. Hugoton 4 11 12 18 - 45 Kingman 6 10 10 16 - 42 Led by senior Kat Blanchat, the Smoky Valley Lady Vikings controlled the boards to pull away in the fourth quarter to defeat Sterling 33-27 for fifth place on Friday afternoon at Sterling High School. Blanchat, who played the entire contest, had 15 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Vikings effort.
Smoky Valley (3-7) outrebounded the Lady Bears 39 to 29 for the game. The Lady Vikings also helped their cause shooting 11 of 18 from the free throw line, compared to just 4 of 8 for Sterling. The Lady Bears (1-10) were led in scoring and rebounding by Chloe Garrett with 10 points and nine rebounds. Sterling 8 6 10 3 - 27 Smoky Valley 9 11 2 11 - 33 Eight players scored for the Lyons Lady Lions as they held off Hutchinson Trinity on Friday afternoon for seventh place by the score of 50-36. Outscoring the Lady Celtics 16-3 in the second quarter, the Lady Lions made seven of 10 free throws in the quarter to help in the effort.
Peyton Kruse had 13 points, while Keirah Davis had 12 to lead Lyons (2-10). The Lady Lions finished 17 of 26 from the foul line for the game. The Lady Celtics (1-10) were led by Alex Suter-Tan with a game-high 18 points. Also in double figures was Cienna Maskil with 11 points. Lyons 10 16 9 15 - 50 Hutch Trinity 14 3 12 7 - 36 Facing their GWAC league foe in Hugoton, the Scott City Lady Beavers came through with a 46-34 semi-final win to make it to the championship contest on Friday. Scott City will face Southeast of Saline at 6:00 pm, while Hugoton will meet Kingman for third place at 3:00 pm.
The Lady Beavers (6-5) were led by Megan Trout with 14 points and seven rebounds. As a team, Scott City forced Hugoton into 23 turnovers. The Lady Eagles (4-6) were led by Amiley Lewis with a game-high 17 points. Scott City 15 6 16 9 - 46 Hugoton 11 8 9 6 - 34 Despite being outrebounded for the game and falling behind early, the Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans held off Kingman by the score of 42-37. Southeast advances to the championship contest on Friday night at 6:00 pm in the Gleason Center at Sterling College against Scott City. Kingman (3-8) will face Hugoton for third place at 4:30 pm also at Sterling College.
The Lady Trojans (9-2) were led by Abigal Pearson with 16 points and Kyiah Samuelson with 14. Leading the way for the Lady Eagles were Kinslie McDorman with 13 and Caylor Helm with 10. Southeast of Saline 7 14 10 11 - 42 Kingman 8 7 11 11 - 37 Jumping out to a 28-12 halftime lead, the lady Vikings took care of the Lady Celtics, 55-27. With the win, Smoky Valley will take on Sterling for fifth place. Paced by Kat Blanchat who finished with 26 points and 15 rebounds, the Lady Vikings were never threatened.
The leading scorer for Trinity was Alex Suter-Tan with 18 points. Trinity will take on Lyons for seventh place. Both games will be played at 3:00 pm at Sterling High School on Friday. Smoky Valley 17 11 12 15 - 55 Hutch Trinity 8 4 11 4 - 27 Behind the three-point shooting of Shklar Olsen and the rebounding of Chloe Garret, the Sterling Lady Bears picked up their first win of the season by the score of 49-26 over the Lyons Lady Lions. Olsen, who finished with 20 points, knocked down six shots from beyond the arc to pace Sterling (1-9). Garrett was a force inside with 14 rebounds, including six on the offensive end.
Lyons (1-10) was led in scoring by Sierra Belote with 12 points. Sterling will face Smoky Valley on Friday for fifth place, while Lyons will matchup against Hutchinson Trinity for seventh. They will play at 7:30 pm against the host Sterling Black Bears. The Beavers put up 23 first quarter points and led the entire way to move to 9-2 on the season. Hugoton will play for third place against Lyons at 4:30 pm. Both games will be played in the Gleason Center at Sterling College.

Braylon Olson was also in double figures for the Vikings with 14 points. Ben Bradshaw led the Eagles for the second game of the tournament with 16 points.

Leading the offensive output for the Trojans (2-8) was Owen Bailey with 22 points and Gannon Jacobson with 19. The Celtics (1-9) were led by Aaron Gust with 17 points. With the win, Lyons will face tournament host and second-seeded Sterling on Thursday at 6:00 pm in the Gleason Center at Sterling College.
The Lions were paced by Xavier Solis with 16 points. He was followed by Tegan Link with 15, Deacon Showalter and Detrell Stanley with 11 each and Paco Espinoza with 10. The Lions defense also held the Eagles to just 11 second half points. Kingman (2-8) was led by Ben Bradshaw with 13 points. The Eagles will play a consolation matchup with the Smoky Valley Vikings at 4:30 pm on Thursday, also at Sterling College. Lyons 15 20 18 13 - 66 Kingman 13 8 5 6 - 32 Led by seniors Morgan Freund and Shay Watkins, the Kingman Lady Eagles had little trouble with the Lyons Lady Lions, picking up a 50-21 win in the first round. Freund and Watkins each had 14 points for Kingman (3-7) while their defense held Lyons (1-9) scoreless in the second quarter.
Kingman advances to the semi-finals on Thursday and will play top-seeded Southeast of Saline at 7:30 pm at Sterling High School. Lyons will also play on Thursday in the consolation bracket against county rival and tournament host Sterling at 3:00 pm. That game will also be played at Sterling High School. Kingman 11 13 16 10 - 50 Lyons 6 0 11 4 - 21 With just eight players on the tournament roster, the Hugoton Lady Eagles held off the Smoky Valley Lady Vikings by the score of 42-31 in first-round action. Hugoton jumped out to a 27-12 advantage at halftime. Despite a tough second half from Smoky Valley, the Lady Vikings could not close the gap.
All eight players played, with seven scoring for the Lady Eagles (4-5). Hugoton was led in scoring by Amiley Lewis with 14 points. The Lady Vikings (1-7) were led by Elsie Boughfman with 13 points. The Lady Trojans jumped out to a double-digit lead from the very beginning before Sterling connected for their first field goal.

While Sterling (0-9) could manage only a single free throw in the third quarter, the Lady Trojans put up 18 points to help put the game away and move into the semi-finals on Thursday at 7:30 pm at Sterling High School against the Kingman Lady Eagles. Leading the scoring for the Lady Trojans was Kyiah Samuelson with 13 points, followed by Abigail Pearson with 10. Constant defensive pressure by the Scott City Beavers resulted in 27 turnovers by the Trinity Celtics as the Beavers advanced to the semi-finals of the Sterling Invitational Tournament with a comfortable 79-27 win on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears (7-2) put the game away with a 36-point third quarter as they shot 60 percent from the field for the game. Leading the Vikings was Ty Heitschmidt with 13 points. Smoky Valley (1-7) will play at 4:30 pm on Thursday. Both games will be played at the Gleason Center on the campus of Sterling College. Behind the scoring of Miguel Hernandez, the Hugoton Eagles advanced to semi-final action on Thursday with a hard-fought 60-52 win over Southeast of Saline. Hernandez, a 5-10 junior, led the Eagles with a game-high 24 points. Leading the way for Southeast of Saline was junior Gannon Jacobson with 20 points.
