Coming down to the very end, the Southeast of Saline Trojans held off the Scott City Beavers for third place in the Sterling Invitational Tournament by the score of 49-47 on Saturday at Sterling College.
Close the entire way, the game featured five ties and seven lead changes. Scott City, 7-3, grabbed the lead early, leading 15-10 after the first period. The Beavers held on to that small lead at the half, but the Trojans did trim that advantage to just 26-23. The top scorers for each team were Gannon Jacobson for Southeast and Jackson Rumford for Scott City. Each with a game-high 24 points. Owen Bailey of Southeast was the only other player in double figures with 10. Coming down to the wire, Scott City's Rumford was fouled with 0.6 on the clock on a three-point attempt as the Beavers trailed by three. Rumford missed his first attempt and made his second, setting up what would be a final attempt to tie or win the game with a miss. His final attempt was off, but the Trojans, now 5-5 overall, grabbed the rebound and secured the win. (Dwight Nichols) Comments are closed.
