The third-place contest on Saturday in the Sterling Girls Invitational Tournament featured the host Sterling Lady Black Bears against the Scott City Lady Beavers. It wasn't what the second-seeded Lady Beavers had in mind when the week started, but their 55-24 win over the Lady Bears secured the third-place trophy.
Led by Megan Trout with 18 points, the Lady Beavers, 6-4 overall, never looked back after jumping out to a quick 9-0 lead. They did nothing but increase that lead as the first half moved along. The Lady Beavers led 15-4 after one period and 33-9 at halftime. That margin would eventually move to more than 30 points by the start of the fourth quarter. Sterling, 4-7, was led in scoring by Aleya Ravenstien with eight points. Also scoring in double figures for the Lady Beavers were Erika Felker with 13 and Avery Lewis with 11.
