A week and a half after losing to the Trinity Lady Celtics in overtime, the Remington Broncos responded by defeating the Celtics 48-38 in the opening round of the Sterling Girls Invitational Tournament.
After a tight first quarter where the Broncos led by one they would take a commanding 26-12 lead into halftime. Trinity would ‘win’ the second half 26-21 but it wasn’t enough to overcome the 14 point halftime deficit. Remington was led by Sienna Schmidt and Kimalee Cook who combined for 32 points with 16 each and Dez Ingalsbee grabbed 8 rebounds. Hayley Hughes had a double-double for the Celtics with 13 points and 11 boards. Elizabeth Zrubek followed with 10 points, Ovia Shank with 8, and Meg Friday with 5. Remington will face the winner of tomorrow’s Southeast of Saline - Hugoton winner. Trinity faces Lyons in Wednesday’s consolation bracket. Game time is at 3 pm.
