The Smoky Valley Lady Vikings, 5-4 overall, rode the coattails of Adrian Hazelwood and her game-high 23 points and some stout defense to claim the championship in the Sterling Girls Invitational Tournament on Saturday with a 46-32 win over the Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans.
After playing to an 8-8 tie in the first period, the Lady Vikings put the clamps on Southeast to the tune of 18 percent field goal shooting for the Lady Trojans for the game. Back -to-back 15-point quarters by Smoky Valley in the second and third quarters was more than enough to claim their first tourney title in Sterling. Katja Blanchat helped the Lady Viking cause with nine points and 11 rebounds. Abigail Pearson had 11 points, while Lexi Jacobson pulled down 10 rebounds for the Lady Trojans, now 7-3, in a losing effort. Comments are closed.
