2018 Sterling Girls Invitational The 5th version of the Sterling Girls Invitational hosted by Sterling High School and Sterling College features just two teams with winning records. The Sterling Lady Black Bears are the one seed with the Beloit Trojans as the two seed on the bottom of the bracket. Monday's matchups features Beloit and Lyons and the Trinity Celtics versus Heart of America League opponent the Remington Broncos. Tuesday Sterling will play the 0-8 Smoky Valley Vikings with Hugoton and Southeast of Saline being the featured evening game. 2018 Sterling Girls Invitational Team Capsules Sterling Lady Black Bears (7-2) The Lady Black Bears grabbed the first seed in this year's tournament with signature wins over then 3A #1 ranked Kingman Eagles and 2017 3A State Runner-Up Cheney Cardinals in the HOA-CPL Challenge. Sterling defeated Hugoton in 2016 for the title and finished second to the Eagles in the '17 tournament.

In the latest KBCA Rankings the Trojans are ranked 7th. No other team in the tournament is ranked. The Trojans finished fourth in last years tournament losing to Remington in the third place game. The Celtics have played a tough schedule thus far this season, losing to current 3A Number 1 Haven and 6-2 Sterling. That record though is clouded with tough losses to 6A Dodge City and 17-4 Stratford, TX. Guymon (W) 58 - 41 Mangum (W) 50 - 41 Stratford (L) 61 - 36 Dodge City (L) 44 - 43 Goodland (W) 45 - 38 Colby (L) 56 - 46 Ulysses(W) 47 - 43 Southeast of Saline Trojans (2-5) The Trojans enter the Tournament as the fifth seed with wins against Smoky Valley and Sacred Heart. They will try to improve on their 8th place finish in the 2017 Invitational. Marion( L) 29-40 Smoky Valley (W) 35-22 Beloit (L) 44-56 Hillsboro (L) 42-50 Sacred Heart (W) 59-43 Minneapolis (L) 52-26 Russell (L) 41-72 Remington Lady Broncos (2-6) While always bringing strong teams to the Tournament the Broncos have yet to secure that elusive championship. This year they will be the 6th seed and face off against the Trinity Celtics for the second time in two weeks as they lost to in overtime on January 5, 47-55 . They have faced a daunting schedule in losing to 3A #2 Garden Plain and #5 Halstead and 2A #8 Berean Academy. In 2017 the Broncos finished 17-5 and 4th in the Invitational. Last season the Lions finished 7-15 and winning 7th place in the Invitational with a win over Southeast of Saline, 49-44. Their two wins this season were against Larned and Inman. Their schedule thus far is one that would make anyone take notice. Losses to 6-1 Abilene, 6-3 Hesston, 9-0 Halstead, 9-0 Haven and a game coming up at 3A #10 Kingman. Last year the Vikings broke through in the tournament to finish 5th defeating Southeast of Saline and Trinity.
