Smoky Valley Girls Historical Notes
- On July 1, 1985 Lindsborg became Smoky Valley High School. According to the Hutchinson News (Feb. 13, 1985, other names that were considered were Coronado Heights and Smoky Valley Heights. "The new name was necessary to reflect the fact that the high school served the entire Smoky Valley, including the communities of Marquette (Wolverines), Lindsborg, Roxbury(Lions), Smolan (Swedes), and Falun."
- State Tournament Appearances 1979, 1982, 1983
- 1979 3A State Champion defeated Southwestern Heights 53-48. The Lady Vikings were coached by program starter, Marvin Johnson. Jill Stephens led the team with 17 points with Kris Stoecker adding 13.
- The 1978-79 team would start the season 1-2, losing to Moundridge and Minneapolis before running of 21 straight victories finishing 22-2.
- The Lady Vikings opened the 3A State Tournament crushing Sedan 74-53 in which Stoecker had 24 points and 24 rebounds while Stephens added 24 points. The Vikings defeated Hillsboro in the state semi-final 57-49. Stephens and Stoecker would be named to the All-Tournament Team and Lindsborg winning the Sportsmanship Award.
- According to the Salina Journal Stephens started 83 of the first 84 games in the program's history. She did not start the first game of her freshman year. She would finish with 1077 career points. Her father was Bethany College coach George Stephens.
- The 1982 team clinched a state birth by defeating Southeast of Saline the sub-state final on a Sherri Stoecker last second shot. The Lady Vikings had lost three times that year to the Lady Trojans.
